Twitter J2ME clients for Nokia and Sony Ericsson

Looking for a good Twitter client for your Nokia non-smart phone? I've tested a number of J2ME clients with Nokia 6303 (S40 platform) and Sony Ericsson W800i, and found couple good. The first one is Twibble. It works great on both phones, and it's a peace of good software also. 5 EUR is the price.

PavoMe

PavoMe is free, and bit more focused on multimedia (allows photo and sound recording and uploading).

(PavoMe on Sony Ericsson W800i)

PavoMe works better on contemporary mobiles with 320*240 displays. W800i is bit old for this app.

MTS and Megafon are deploying commercial 3G coverage in Moscow

Number of mobile subscribers in Russia, and by country

MorganStanley's report says Russia is the 4th country in the world by number of mobile subscribers.

No love from Gmail SMS service for Russia

Google has added SMS quotas in Gmail Chat. Help topic on the matter says:

Messages sent or received to/from phones in North America don't have a quota.

So I assume it’s now possible to send and receive message outside US.

There are three big mobile phone operators in Russia: MTS, BeeLine and Megafone. Gmail failed to deliver SMS to MTS, neither Megafone.

Vobis Highscreen PP5420 is the first Android Phone available in Russia since July 04. The model is available only from Vobis Computer. As noted in the review, Highscreen PP5420 – it’s a Mobinnova ІCE 5420 with Android firmware instead of Windows Mobile one. Vobis Computer has made a 100 piece of them as an experiment. Highscreen PP5420 has something they called a “developers firmaware”, so it has no Android market, Google accounts, and user must have a special skills to install additional software.

MTS Launches 3G in Moscow

Mobile TeleSystems (NYSE:MBT) today announces the service test launch of its 3G network in Moscow, Russia.

In Moscow, the frequencies necessary for 3G technologies are used by the military, and MTS has faced problems rolling out 3G in Moscow in the past. Now the service test appeals to verify that MTS 3G network will not conflict with radio equipment used by special and military forces. MTS plans service test to be completed before August 1, 2009.
